Gratitude and Joy:
A Thanksgiving Reflection

My first introduction to Thanksgiving came in the fall of 1986 when I arrived in Knoxville from Spain.

Although I had heard about this special day, my first true experience of the Thanksgiving celebration was when I was warmly welcomed into a family friend’s home. The hospitality and kindness I encountered, along with the gathering of friends and family, and the service rendered to some people of the community that had no place to go, left a lasting impression on me.  A beautiful example of a Southern Thanksgiving, filled with warmth and generosity.

To be thankful, to be grateful, and to be of service, all resonate on the same frequency. The air of Thanksgiving inspires us to open our hearts, allowing us to set aside life’s ups and downs and come together in unity.

Working alongside our TRM team, collaborating with local businesses and farmers, and serving our community, members, and shoppers has enriched this experience and deepened my appreciation for the connections we forge. This Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the comradery and support that surrounds us and for the opportunity to give back to the community we cherish. Choosing to walk this road has made all the difference.

“I slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold, service was joy.” – Rabindranath Tagore

With sincere gratitude and appreciation,

Fadi Aboush – General Manager

NOVEMBER’S
NOURISHING CHANGE

In November we will be collecting change to help support Lonsdale Elementary’s Parent-Teacher-Friends Organization.

Lonsdale Elementary is a multicultural public school located in Region 5 in north Knoxville. It serves students from Kindergarten through Fifth grade.

Objective:

To raise $7,000 to contribute to Lonsdale’s children’s and teachers’ classroom supplies.

We have exciting news! For the first time in three years, Three Rivers Market can report a profit for fiscal year 2023-2024.

Our General Manager, Fadi Aboush, and our amazing staff have worked hard to achieve this, while maintaining our commitment to paying every employee a living wage and offering monthly discounts to our members.

This also couldn’t have happened without you – the members and customers who continue to patronize our store, and who contribute to our cooperative not just with your money, but your time and passion as well.

Thank you for your commitment, and we hope you feel proud of your co-op.

The Agenda for the regular monthly meetings is posted at least one week before each meeting on the
co-op’s website.

To request that an item be considered for the Board’s agenda, members can either email the request to board@threeriversmarket.coop or leave a note for the Chair at the Member & Customer Services Desk at the store. Requests must be dated and include name, member number, phone number, email address, or other reliable contact information needed for follow-up.

The deadline for submitting items to the Chair for consideration is four weeks prior to the scheduled meeting.
