Staff Spotlight: Lindy Terrell

Lindy moved to Tennessee from Connecticut two years ago and joined the co-op team in March 2022 as a Stocker/Receiver. She says, “Knoxville is a fun place. A lot of the scenes here look like comic book panels, and that makes me feel ay-oh-kay. The trains are timeless; their tracks forever shining, while the rivers reach out to touch the sky as though they really like each other. Yet above all, the bridges impress me the most, even with the mountains on the horizon being majestic as heck. Then of course there is the sun sphere~ that giant golden disco ball really drives home the comic appeal I feel this city has going.

Speaking of comic, I’ve heard there is a clown school here in Knoxville where tons of fine funnery happens with puppets and juggling and dancing! oh my! Those are a few of my favorite things. Other favorites include: colorful fashion, top hats, paint brushes, editing music to video, designing album covers, writing a mythology and wearing a cape.

I love that Three Rivers Market has a small town feel, with kind people and wholesome food. The hot bar is a great feature because there’s always something I’ll enjoy there. It’s relaxing to sit and gaze out the windows of the café area, and once getting my eyeful of the outdoors I can turn to admire artwork hung on the cafés wall by local artists. How fun! I will be contributing to the colorful scene by hanging my artwork in the café this October. And speaking of October, which is all about Halloween {costumes}: Can we all make Casual Costume Friday into a thing every week? Thank you.”

JULY NOURISHING CHANGE

In July we will be collecting change to help support Grandparents as Parents.

The mission of Grandparents as Parents is to address the unique needs of grandparents and relative caregivers raising children whose parents are unable to care for them. They do this by providing families with support, information, and referrals to community resources.

The goal is to stabilize those family units, and food security is a large part of that. These caregivers keep families together, provide safe homes, and avoid foster home placement for the children. We believe that their success is part of how we can keep our community healthy and whole.

Objective: To raise $7,000 to support Grandparents as Parents.

Funds raised will be used towards producing the 3rd edition of the Grandparents As Parents Guidebook, which is provided at no cost to families. 10,000 copies will be donated across the region.

The Three Rivers Market Annual Picnic was held at Ivan Racheff House & Gardens & Arboretum, located in the Lonsdale neighborhood, on Saturday, June 17th, with lovely weather to highlight the peaceful beauty of the historic natural surroundings. Those in attendance not only enjoyed a relaxing celebration of and with our co-op community, but also had the opportunity to share ideas with the Board of Directors.

The Board of Directors is deeply saddened by the sudden and recent loss of our Secretary-Treasurer,
Helen de Haven.

Helen demonstrated a lifelong commitment to advocacy, organization, and activism. Helen’s Board service and leadership were invaluable during a period of significant change in our cooperative’s history. Compassion, clarity, and integrity were gifts she shared generously in service of Three Rivers Market, and we benefited immensely from her involvement.

Three Rivers Market will be making a donation to Sacred Ground Hospice House in Helen’s memory. Contributions from our members are welcomed and appreciated. Members may donate cash at the Member & Customer Services Desk through
July 15th.

The agenda for the regular monthly meetings is posted at least one week before each meeting on the
co-op’s website.
To request that an item be considered for the Board’s agenda, members can either email the request to
board@threeriversmarket.coop or leave a note for the Chair at the Member & Customer Services Desk at the store. Requests must be dated and include name, member number, phone number, email address, or other reliable contact information needed for follow-up. The deadline for submitting items to the Chair for consideration is four weeks prior to the scheduled meeting.
