Pioneer House

Pioneer House.com

Julie Belcher is an Appalachian artist, dedicated handmade advocate, and appreciator of that which can be made new and useful once more. She studied architecture and graphic design before helping to launch the hand-set letterpress revival and her company Yee-Haw Industrial Letterpress, over 2 decades ago, while scavenging to purchase and restore vintage printing presses long forgotten throughout the South. She hand pulls her letterpress pieces from antique typography and carved imagery. She embellishes the paper monoprints with drawing, thread and melted beeswax encaustic and incorporates them into her mixed media paintings in her current studio Pioneer House in Knoxville, TN. Julie was the recipient of a Bailey Opportunity Grant in 2021 with recent showings at the Muriel S. Mayfield Gallery, Athens, TN and Anchor & Arrow Dry Goods, New Orleans, along with long time printmaking pal Sean Starwars.
