FEBRUARY’S
NOURISHING CHANGE

In February we will be collecting change to help support The Bottom

The Bottom is a nonprofit cultural organization serving our community through our Black-affirming bookshop and arts programming. Rooted in place justice, we stand to build community, celebrate culture, and engage the creativity of Black people in Knoxville. We strive to cultivate a sense of belonging, togetherness and safety for Black people in Knoxville and beyond.

Objective: To raise $7,000 to increase the number of children who can participate in free youth development programs, such as Sew it Sell it and Lit Kidz.

The Bottom hosts workshops, skills training, exhibits, and events year-round while creating space and avenues for an intergenerational community to engage in black-centered and affirming arts, while uplifting local artists, authors, and makers. The Bottom’s programs include; Bookshop at the Bottom; Black Creative Meetup; Sew it Sell it; Community Podcast Studio; and Community Fellowship Program.

We are pleased to share the appointment of Jackie Kittrell to seat 7 of the Board of Directors, which became vacant with the passing of Helen de Haven last summer. Jackie is the Executive Director of the Community Mediation Center (CMC), a nonprofit that provides mediation services to our community in Knox and surrounding counties, regardless of ability to pay, and with a focus on vulnerable populations in need of mediation services and training services. She is also a licensed TN attorney, practicing employment law, civil rights law, and family law for over 35 years.

Jacki recently attended Cooperative Board Leadership 101 along with newly elected Directors Alhen Drillich and Adam Hughes. This training, a benefit of Board service, is provided by Columinate, a consulting cooperative serving mission-driven organizations. Here are some reflections on this learning experience:

The Agenda for the regular monthly meetings is posted at least one week before each meeting on the
co-op’s website.To request that an item be considered for the Board’s agenda, members can either email the request to
board@threeriversmarket.coop or leave a note for the Chair at the Member & Customer Services Desk at the store. Requests must be dated and include name, member number, phone number, email address, or other reliable contact information needed for follow-up.

The deadline for submitting items to the Chair for consideration is four weeks prior to the scheduled meeting.
